What do you have to talk about? Who do I have to talk to? Why do I need to involve people in my affairs? Are few of the questions ringing in your head as soon as you hear TALK ABOUT IT, SAVE A LIFE?

You probably grew up in an environment where you have been made to believe “Silence means Strength” or your growing mechanism has been stuffing it in and dealing with it personally. It can be hard to open up and talk to people about exactly how you feel. You feel they are personal and only you has the right to know. Sometimes you feel people won’t take you seriously or end up stigmatizing you with it hence the reason for your silence.

Irrespective of what the issues can be, the first step to getting better is for you to talk about it. Identifying and accepting that you have an issue that needs help is very important is prerequisite to talking about it. This simply means you are ready t6o get better, you are willing to get help. You can proceed to opening up to someone you are comfortable with either family or friend. Of course there are people/therapists who are willing and ready to hear you out and help only if you are ready to talk about it.

You are possibly wondering the need for you to talk about it. It is quite simple, You want to be better, You want to see yourself being your very best without having issues to weigh you down, you want to stay in good mental health, You want to save a life. When you make a decision to talk about the issue, it simply means you are ready to get pass through it. Talking about it will lighten whatsoever burden you feel from bearing it all alone. Talking about it will bring you ease and prevent any form of depression that can result from dealing with it. Talking about it will give you CATHARSIS (a feeling of relief). Even studies have proven that talking to someone about a probelm and sharing our negative emotions with a trusted person can be healing; reducing stress, strengthening our immune system, improving the overall state of the body.

Talking opens one to possible solutions and different perspective. Talking will help ease the chances of depression or suicidal thoughts. Talking is not a sign of weakness, at all. It is a proof of you being a charge, you are taking charge of your well-being and doing all it takes to be the best of yourself.

You are confused as to who you share the issues with or you aren’t comfortable sharing with family and friends, then try out talking therapy where a trained counsellor or therapist listens and help you without any judgement. A therapist will allow to express yourself the way you can and be rest assured you are in safe hands. You can feel better and live better.

STEP UP AND SPEAK UP. DON’T SEAL IT IN, DON’T BRUSH IT OFF, DON’T WISH IT AWAY.
