She goes out to meet her friends that they’ve been together for a couple of years. She has been unable to sleep for weeks, and her mind is filled up with suicidal thoughts due to some traumatic experience she has been fighting. A strong girl who has had to battle rejection from parents at an early stage of life; the only child of her parents; she has no family who stands for her. It’s more like she’s the only one in the world. The world has been mean to her, but she has the hope in her that once she gets to her friends, they would stand up for her and get her through this traumatic moment in her life.
She walks with a heavy heart, tears were forming on her eyes. She couldn’t hold back anymore, she can’t fight anymore; she wants to give up on the battle she had been fighting for long. She thought if she played her ‘Friendship card’ then, the battle could take another shape which would lead into victory. On getting to her friend’s place, they were gathered in numbers gisting about the trending topics on social media, laughing at skits that have been posted by comedians online. They didn’t even notice her presence when she entered into the room, not until she dropped her bag on the table standing beside the wall mirror. Her friends stared for a bit before they went back into doing what they had been doing – gisting.
“I’m tired of my life, I don’t seem to get it right. The pressure from the world is too much, nobody seems to like me, I have no parents to care for me; I don’t think I want to be here anymore. I can’t fight again.” These were the words she said loudly after seeing no one cared about her presence. Her friends looked at her and laughed hysterically… ‘Wetin dey do this girl, be like say you no wan get sense abi?’ Instead of you to go into a relationship, go and get a boyfriend and you’ll stop being lonely. They mocked her and took her pains for granted. They were more focused on ‘Social media’ rather than being kind to someone they called their friend. This act was the last straw that broke the camel’s hump. She quietly went into the bathroom, locked herself up for almost 3 hrs. Her friends were so careless and didn’t cared about where she went, not until one of them wanted to use the bathroom before they knew it was locked. After several trials, they broke the door, and behold, they saw her bleeding to death, she had slit her wrist… Rushing her to the hospital, she was pronounced dead. That was the end of a young promising girl who had been fighting silent battles with the hope that if she told her friends what she was going through, they would be kind enough to help her.
Imagine if the whole scenario played out differently; when she told her friends she was tired of fighting; they were kind enough to drop everything they had been doing, and they offered her a helping hand, maybe just maybe, she would still be alive till today. This is the world where we’ve all found ourselves today. The world as it stands keeps getting tougher and humanity keeps dying daily. The need for kindness keeps getting bigger daily as the world bleeds due to rising wickedness. A little act of kindness can go a long way in healing the deepest of wound. The truth is we are all broken, and if only we can show compassion towards humanity, the world will be a better place.
Be kind towards everyone you meet, be it kids, youths, adults, male or female. While the world is evolving, and social media platforms are becoming a means of validation for people. This digital world is breeding a lot of bullies that takes pleasure in inflicting mental pain on random individuals who are only seeking for who to love them. Try a little kindness, show a kindness, shine the light for everyone to see. Even when no one seems to understand why you keep doing the good deeds, remember that as little drops of water makes mighty ocean, then one act of kindness destroys a lot of wickednes
